Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard has been a record producer and songwriter for nearly twenty years. In that time he has won two Ivor Novello Awards, been nominated for a Grammy twice, and has won numerous Ascap Awards. His career has seen him work with artists as diverse as U2, Kylie Minogue, Bono, Charlotte Church, David Gray, and the Spice Girls, with whom Richard co-wrote their seminal 90’s pop classic ‘Wannabe’ as well as writing and producing on tracks from the band’s debut album ‘Spice’ which has sold 23 million copies worldwide.
Biff diversified the ‘Biffco’ brand in 2008 and began working with more left of centre artists including Little Boots, Sia, Marina & The Diamonds and Ellie Goulding, with whom he wrote the single ‘Lights’. The song has gone on to sell 2.5 million copies (and is still going strong) and helped launch Ellie in the US. In 2010, Biff took on a new role as Musical Director on X Factor UK, which saw him help mentor and produce the music for One Direction, Aiden Grimshaw and eventual winner Matt Cardle. He continued this through into 2011 where he oversaw the musical direction for all of the contestants and winners’ Little Mix. Biff also found time to produced two tracks for the huge One Direction debut album, as well as producing half of the debut Matt Cardle record.
2012 has seen Biff produce music for classical megastars Il Divo as well as working Ellie Goulding on music for her next record. Biff has also collaborated recently with Little Mix for their debut album as well as alternative pop artists Jess Mills and Jagga. 2015-16 saw Biff busily producing hits for Kylie, Dannii, Medina, Will Young, Marina & The Diamonds, Little Mix and Ella Henderson.
